Research Scientist at Technology and Social Change Group (TASCHA), USA

Renee Lynch is a Research Scientist with the Technology and Social Change Group (TASCHA) at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. In her role, she researches and designs community-based approaches to media literacy education and equity in international development funding. Her current participatory grantmaking (PGM) project is a small grants program for African libraries, co-designing an accessible funding program and building library capacity to apply for further funding. Renee thinks a lot about equity and power in international collaborations; her dissertation focused on decolonizing collaboration in English language teaching in Tanzania through the lens of identity.

Prior to being a researcher, Renee was an English teacher and teacher trainer in the US and sub-Saharan Africa (Senegal, Lesotho, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania). She holds a PhD in English, a Master’s in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and a Bachelor’s in Theatre and Anthropology.
